The debutant Hasan Nawaz has revealed Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan’s message after his stunning knock in the first ODI against the West Indies.
Hasan Nawan made an impressive ODI debut, smashing an unbeaten 63 runs and guiding the side towards a five-wicket victory on Friday’s clash.
He was named as the Player of the Match. After the game, Hasan Nawaz said that Rizwan told him to make the most of his debut match and get the team over the line in the first ODI of the Pakistan tour of the West Indies played on August 08.
Speaking to the PCB, he said that he was aiming to make his debut a memorable one. Hasan Nawaz said he had confidence from his Pakistan Super League exploits and knew he could big hits in the end.
“It was my debut match so I was thinking to make it memorable. When me and Rizwan were batting, he was telling me that ‘it’s your debut, so you have to finish the match.'”
“When he was going out his dismissal, he said the same thing that you have to finish it. So that was the plan, and also I had the confidence from before that in the PSL, I have been finishing matches. That thing was also there that I can get big hits at the end,” said Nawaz.
Hasan Nawaz also spoke about learning from Babar and Rizwan who put on a steady stand of 55 to help Pakistan get back into the chase,
“You learn a lot from Babar bhai, Rizwan bhai, the way they play, they are match-winners. So, we learn a lot from them. There was a lot of help from them, and it played a big role in winning the match. When we lost one or two wickets early, they handled it very well, and later we got the benefit of that,” said Nawaz.
The second match of the ODI series will be played on August 10 at Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad.
