Hardik Pandya welcomed with a couple of boundaries in his first over as MI captain

Hardik Pandya has been slammed with a couple of boundaries in his first over as the Mumbai Indians’ newly-appointed captain.

Ahead of the IPL 2024 season, Mumbai Indians traded Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans and named him as the captain of the team for the 2024 season. Though Mumbai Indians and Hardik Pandya received massive criticism from the IPL and Rohit Sharma fans, the franchise stood strong in their decision.

As per IPL 2024 Schedule, Mumbai will face Gujarat Titans to play their first game on March 24 in Ahmedabad. Under the new skipper, Mumbai Indians are expected to break their decade-long cold streak where the team have never won the first match of the respective seasons.

Mumbai Indians who is one of the highest trophy holders won their 5 IPL titles in this losing streak. Notably, MI won their first IPL trophy in 2013 in which the Mumbai-based franchise lost their first match of the season.

While Hardik Pandya walked down the toss he received a massive booing from the fans at the stadium.

Apart from that speaking of the match, Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bowl first. While everyone expected Bumrah to open the attack, captain Hardik Pandya took the responsibilities and bowled the first over of the game.

In his very first over, his former teammates Saha and Gill each smashed a boundary and scored a total of 11 runs in the over. Hardik who bowled the third over of the game gave boundaries off his first two deliveries and finished the over after spelling 9 runs.

Mumbai’s senior spinner Chawla bagged the first wicket of the match by dismissing GT skipper Shubman Gill for 31 runs, following his dismissal, Bumrah dismissed Saha for 19 runs while Gujarat titans scored 64 runs in 7.4 overs.

Gujarat Titans’ new recruiter Azmatullah Omarzai scored 17 runs from 11 deliveries before being dismissed from Gerald Coetzee, his maiden IPL wicket. As of now, Gujarat Titans scored 124 runs for 3 wickets loss at the end of 15 overs.
