ENG vs IND 1st Test Playing 11: Ben Stokes-led England will square off against Shubman Gill-led India in the first test of the India tour of England 2025 starting on June 20 at Headingley, Carnegie.
With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli has announced retirement in test format, Shubman Gill has taken charge as the new captain of India. Several youngsters like Sai Sudharsan and Abhimanyu Easwaran has been named in the squad.
Both sides will be looking for a win in the series which marks the beginning of new WTC cyle 2025-27 for both teams.
On the other hand, Ben Stokes led team will be feature the return of the Ollie Pope and Chris Woakes to the test squad. The test series will mark the beginning the new WTC Cycle for the both sides.

England won the toss and opted to bowl first. Speaking at the toss, Ben Stokes said, “We’ll bowl. Headingley is a very good cricket wicket, we’ve had some really good games here. Want to try and use the early conditions.”
“Been a long time coming, bit strange that this is just the second series but we’re ready. It’s been mixed, some lads have played county cricket, we’ve had three days of really good cricket. Usual suspects in the top seven, Woakes, Brydon, Bashir, Tongue and myself make up the bowling,” said Ben Stokes.
Meanwhile Shubman Gill said, “Would’ve bowled first as well, might be a bit tough in the first session but it should be good to bat on later. Sun is out, should be a good batting deck for us. Preperation has been amazing, we played a practice game in Beckenham, lads are feeling great. Sai makes his debut, Karun comes in. Sai will bat at three,” concluded Gill.
