The All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz is set to return to test squad in the second test of Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka 2025 which is set to begin on June 25.
He missed the series opener in Galle due to fever, has recovered and resumed training. Mehidy is returned back to training ground which is confirmed by team manager Nafees Iqbal.
“He (Mehidy) is much better and came to the ground today,” confirmed team manager Nafees Iqbal.
Miraz has been an important member in Bangladesh’s Test setup and was recently named as vice-captain for the ongoing series, which also records the team’s first assignment in the new WTC cycle.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz played a crucial role in the home test series against Zimbabwe earlier this year. The Bangladesh ODI captain has been replaced by Anamul Haque Bijoy Mehidy in the opening test but failed to make an impact.
A BCB official informed that spin bowling consultant Mushtaq Ahmed left Galle on June 17, ahead of the ongoing test, and is expected to return during the ODI series, which begins in early July.
Mushtaq had worked closely with the spinner during training sessions in Dhaka and Galle in the lead-up to the Test series.
“BCB and Mushtaq have a contract based on the number of working days. He was present during the preparation phase and left after completing his scheduled duties. He will return on July 6,” Nafees added.
Batting first, Bangladesh posted 495 runs in their first innings thanks to centuries from Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim.
Litton Das’s 90 run knock also played a significant role in the side’s mammoth total. However, Sri Lanka bounced back with Path Nissanka’s 187 runs.
With solid knocks from Dinesh Chandimal and Kamindu Mendis stellar knocks, Sri Lanka went past Bangladesh’s score on day 04. The second test will be played between June 25 and 29 at Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground.
