Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh praises Bumrah and went on to tag him as the “Virat Kohli of bowling”. Bumrah will make a comeback in the upcoming Ireland T20I series after he was ruled out from the T20 Asia Cup in September 2022 with a back injury. He had made an appearance in India’s T20I bilateral series against Australia at home.
Harbhajan Singh Praises Bumrah
Though Bumrah once remained as the key pacer for the Indian cricket team, his long absence created a stir over his performance on the ground. The Ireland T20I series will be the reply to the questions regarding Bumrah’s comeback performance in international cricket.
With only youngsters selected for the assignment, Bumrah was also named the captain of the team for the series. Speaking of the importance of Bumrah for the Indian cricket team in the upcoming Asia Cup and World Cup, Harbhajan highlighted how crucial Bumrah remains for India’s plans to end the ICC trophy drought.
“Jasprit Bumrah has made a comeback. He was injured for a long time and his return was awaited. He has come back and has been made the captain straightaway. Congratulations to Jassi for becoming the captain and foremost for getting fit. I hope and keep my fingers crossed that Jassi doesn’t get injured again,” Harbhajan said in a video on his YouTube channel.
The pacer was absent from the T20 World Cup in Australia in which India crashed out after losing the semi-finals against the champions England. The 29-year-old player had undergone surgery in March this year in New Zealand with rehabilitation at National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
He had participated in a few practice games in nets under the supervision of the physio. Jasprit Bumrah also missed the Indian Premier League 2023, Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup, and is in the final stages of his recovery.
“He has been missed a lot, whether you see the WTC final or the cricket that was played before that. I used to say earlier and am saying it today as well that if we talk about batting, we talk about Virat Kohli, and if there is a Virat Kohli of bowling, it is Jasprit Bumrah. There is no bigger name than him,” he said.
The first match of the India tour of Ireland 2023 will be played on August 18 at The Village, Dublin.
