The Calcutta High Court has ordered the immediate arrest of Delhi Capitals wk-batter Abhishek Porel in a rape case, instructing police to seize his electronic devices while investigating allegations of rape on the false promise of marriage, criminal intimidation and threats to leak intimate images.
The order was passed after a woman filed a complaint in June 2026, accusing Porel of establishing a sexual relationship with her on the false promise of marriage. She also alleged that the cricketer assaulted and criminally intimidated her.
Calcutta High Court Justice Saugata Bhattacharjee has also directed the police to more poractive in investigating the case.
In June, the medical student files a serious complaint against the cricketer at the Mogra Police Station in Hooghly alleging multiple allegations such as sexual intercourse on the promise of marriage, sexual harrasment on the threat of leaking objectable images and forcible physical intercourse.
According to the complaint, it is said that Porel and the woman has been in relationship for three years and claimed that probles began last year when the cricketer started distancing himself from her.
She further added that Abhishek Porel had promised to marry her but later refused to do so.
A copy of the order of Justice Saugata Bhattacharya of the Calcutta High Court shows that 19 charges have been filed. The sections are – 64 (1), 66, 69, 74, 75 (2), 79, 115 (2), 117 (2), 124, 127 (2), 109 (1), 308 (2), 351 (2), 351 (3), 316 (2), 318 (3), 61 (2), 3 (5) and 66 E/72 of the IT Act.
It includes several non-bailable sections are included. The electronic device of Abhishek Porel contains several pictures of the young woman, which is published, could be defamatory of the young woman. The lawyers demanded that they be confiscated immediately.
State police lawyer Surjanil Das told the court that they had contacted police officer in charge of Mogra police station on July 6. Mogra police station informed that a pen drive had been seized from the girl. After that, Justice Saugata Bhattacharya directed the police to immediately seize all the electronic devices so that the girl’s picture is not circulated in any way.
Abhishek Porel has been part of Delhi Capitals since 2023. In last season, he made 108 runs in four innings. Porel made his first class debut for Bengal in 2021-22 season and has played 32 FC matches and 23 List A matches.
