    BCCI Set to Cut Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s Salaries by INR 2 Crore

    The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to make one of the significant moves in contract overhauls in recent years during the board’s apex council meet in the Annual General Meeting on December 22.

    The session is expected to have a detailed discussion on the revised central contracts of veteran batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who have stepped away from Test and T20I formats.

    With the reduced workload, the pair reportedly to be moved out A+ category, making a way for new leadership core.

    Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah is expected to be moved to the top contract. The shift would reflect in the increased responsibilities and all-format involvement.

    The AGM will also address a range of administrative and operational matters. Meanwhile, there are proposal over revisions for domestic women’s cricket contracts are on the agenda, as are improved match fees for umpires and referees.

    The board is also set to receive updates on its digital platforms and ongoing commercial initiatives.

    This will be the first AGM following changes within the BCCI’s leadership. Mithun Manhas became BCCI president in September, with Raghuram Bhatt becoming treasurer.

    Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia stepped in as secretary and joint secretary respectively. Saurashtra Cricket Association chief Jaydev Shah joined the council after the latest round of elections.

    The Central Contracts remains crucial of players renumeration in Indian cricket. They are divided into four slabs – A+ (INR 7 crore), A (INR 5 crore), B, (INR 3 crore), and C (INR 1 crore).

    Beyond the annual retainer, contracted players enjoy year long access to the National Cricket Academy’s Centre of Excellence and receive specialised medical and rehabilitation support from BCCI’s dedicated staff.

    The upcoming Annual General Meeting could see a major change in reshaping the hierarchy in the Indian cricket, with new generations to take its place at the top of Indian Cricket’s contract structure.
