Afghanistan’s AM Ghazanfar has been ruled out of the Champions Trophy 2025 due to an L4 Vertebra fracture with Nangyal Kharoti replacing him in the squad.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed that Ghazanfar has sustained a fracture in the L4 vertebra, specifically in the left pars interarticularis, and will be sidelined for a minimum of four months.
Ghazanfar earned him a contract in IPL with Mumbai Indians for a price of INR 4.80 Crore.
“AM Ghazanfar, has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy due to a fracture in the L4 vertebra, specifically in the left pars interarticularis.”
“He sustained the injury during Afghanistan’s recently held tour of Zimbabwe, and will be sidelined for a minimum of four months and will remain under treatment during this period,” the ACB wrote in it’s statement.
“Nangyal Kharoti, who was part of the reserves pool, has been promoted to the main squad for the Champions Trophy. Additionally, Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s continues to miss the ODI action, until he has fully recovered,” ACB statement further added.

The spinner suffered the injury during Afghanistan’s recent tour of Zimbabwe. His prolonged absence is a major setback for the national team ahead of the ICC tournament.
Nangyal Kharoti who was part of reserves pool, has been promoted to Afghanistan’s main squad for the tournament. The ACB team will continue monitor the young spinner’s recovery closely ensuring he undergoes the necessary rehabilitation process.
