Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja has been named as Afghanistan’s mentor for ODI World Cup 2023.

The board confirmed the news via their official X handle on October 2. Regarding the appointment, the Afghanistan Cricket Board posted “ACB Appointed former Indian Captain and middle-order batter Ajay Jadeja as AfghanAtalan’s Mentor for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023”.

The 13th edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup is scheduled to be hosted by India between October 5 to November 19. It will be the first time the competition is held entirely in India; three previous editions were partially hosted there – 1987, 1996, and 2011.

As of the previous edition, the 2023 edition will be played between ten teams. Each participating team will play the other nine teams once in the group stage where 45 group matches will be played.

The top 4 teams of the ICC ODI World Cup points table will enter the knockout stage where the winner of Semifinal 1 and Semifinal 2 will play the FINAL game.

Ajay Jadeja has played 15 test matches for India from 1992 to 2000, scoring 576 runs at 26.18 with 4 half-centuries to his name and a best of 96. He has also represented India in 196 One Day Internationals (ODIs) during the period, having scored 5359 runs at 37.47 with 6 hundreds and 30 fifties to his name in the format.

He has also been part of 111 First Class and 291 List A games and has scored over 8000 runs in each format with 31 hundreds and 88 fifties combined in both formats of the game.

Afghanistan National Cricket Team is currently in India for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, where they are scheduled to take the field against Bangladesh for its first game in this year’s event on October 7 in Dharamshala.
