Rashid Khan withdraws from PSL 2024

Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan has announced his unavailability to the PSL franchise Lahore Qalandars where he played two seasons of the league.

Rashid Khan sustained an injury during the World Cup match against South Africa in November 2023. He did not play in any of the matches since his injury.

Lahore Qalandars will find a replacement for Rashin from the Supplementary and Replacement draft.

Rashid Khan underwent surgery in the UK and he also missed the T20I series in Afghanistan’s India tour. He also withdrew from the Big Bash League and SA20 league.

Head Coach Jonathan Trott spoke about the player saying, “It is a case of us making sure that we are really careful with his back.” He wants Rashid back to 100% before making it to the action.

“He is such an influential player: we have to make sure he is 100% ready and not rush him back from that type of surgery… when he is ready, he will be the first one to get on the field.”

“He has got a few more appointments and check-ups to make sure everything is OK, so there is no real-time frame. I hope it is sooner rather than later, but there is no pressure and no rush.”

Rashid has been one of the most skilled bowlers in the Afghanistan Cricket Team and has displayed a decent performance during the ODI World Cup 2023 picking up 11 wickets from 9 games.

According to the sources the player might be returning to action for the Afghanistan vs Ireland T20I series.

However, If he is not able to return for the Ireland series, he will be expected to make himself fit for the Indian Premier League 2024. Rashid Khan will be playing for Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2024.
