The former Indian opener Aakash Chopra was disappointed with Sanju Samson after getting dismissed in the same fashion in the ongoing five-match T20I series against England.
Sanju Samson has been criticised for his inconsistent performance in the ongoing series in England tour of India 2025 as he struggled miserably on the short balls.
He has come under the radar for his poor run as he registered one-double digit score in the series so far. Chopra was not impressed with Samson getting dismissed in the same fashion in the last four matches.
“India lost the toss and got to bat first. Sanju Samson once again got out in the same fashion. I don’t want to trigger Sanju’s fan army at all but the fact is that he has now been dismissed similarly four times.”
After Rohit Sharma made his T20I retirement, Sanju grabbed his opportunity to establish him as opener. While playing as an opener in the opener format, he showed his class against Bangladesh on home turf with a century.
However he had a tough start in this year and failed to make an impact so far with the bat and also failed to make it to the Champions Trophy squad.
Sanju Samson missed the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Kerala and came into the series with a lack of practice matches and has struggled against the express pace of Mark Wood and Jofra Archer who have troubles the Indian opener consistently.
Samson’s return have been disappointing but it is unlikely that India would want to change in their opening combination at the top of the approach is a core principle of the T20 cricket.
“He got out to Saqib Mahmood’s bowling this time. So continuously in the same fashion against the short ball, finding a fielder in the deep and once caught at mid-on, thrice against Jofra Archer and once against Saqib,” Chopra added.
Currently India secured 3-1 win in the ongoing five match T20I series and will be playing their final match against England on February 02 at Wankhede Stadium.
