The South African legend AB de Villiers has said that Virat Kohli told him not to say ‘Ee Sala Cup Namde’ anymore.
The famous RCB fan chant translates to ‘This year the cup will be ours’ and has been doing rounds over the past few years as RCB are yet to end their 17-year-long IPL title drought.
AB de Villiers who played for 11 seasons for RCB from 2011 and 2021, revealed that he got a text from Kohli to not use that chant anymore.
The legendary batter also said that if RCB finally manages to win their maiden IPL title in the upcoming season, he will also join in to celebrate with them.
“I said ‘Ee sala cup namde’ somewhere and immediately got a text from Virat to not use it anymore. If RCB do manage to end their trophy drought this season, I will also come to celebrate with them,” said de Villiers.

RCB has managed to reach IPL finals thrice in their history in 2009, 2011 and 2016 respectively. However, on all three occasions, RCB fans got disappointed failing to cross the final hurdle.
During the 2016 season, Virat Kohli led his team from the front with a record breaking 973 runs in the season. In the finals, Chris Gayle had a great start with Chris Gayle (76 runs off 38 deliveries) and Virat Kohli (54 runs off 35 deliveries) adding 114 runs from 63 balls chasing a target of 209 runs.
However, they suffered a dramatic collapse and were restricted to 200/7 in their 20 over innings, suffering a heartbreaking loss.
With building the squad in the IPL 2025 mega auction, RCB will begin a dawn of a new era under the leadership of Rajat Patidar.
RCB will begin their IPL 2025 campaign against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders on March 22 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
