Players Banned in IPL: The Indian Premier League (IPL) has indeed sparked a revolution not only in Indian cricket but also in world cricket. The IPL has undergone a drastic change since IPL came into being as other countries have formed their respective tournament.
The amount of cash involved in the league has changed many cricketers’ lives and has also earned their spot in the national team.
However, the league has the potential for controversies with huge money involved has opened up the possibility of spot-fixing.

Players Banned in IPL: The tournament’s history has witnessed on-field altercations and off-field controversies that have shaken the cricketing world and resulted in harsh punishments which have resulted in the ban of certain players.
Harbhajan Singh
In the inaugural edition of the IPL 2008, Harbhajan Singh has slapped Sreesanth after the game between Kings Xl Punjab and Mumbai Indians. Sreesanth took a couple of wickets in a winning effort.

He approached Harbhajan Singh and said ‘hard luck’ due to which the MI captain lost his coo; and hit Kerala based cricketer under the eye. As a Result, the former India spinner faced suspension and was banned for the rest of the season.
However, he has played until the 2021 season played 163 matches amassing 833 runs at an average of 15.72 and has 150 IPL wickets.
Mohammad Asif
The former Pakistan seamer who played for Delhi Daredevils pulled off a notable performance in the inaugural season. His newball bowling along with Glenn McGrath proved to be effective for Delhi.

However, he lost his IPL contract and faced with a year long ban due to a usage of prohibited drug named Nandrolone being found in his urine sample. The 38 year old also caught at the Dubai airport on his way to Pakstan with 0.24 grams of Opium
Ravindra Jadeja
The Saurashtra all-rounder who played under Shane Warne after the U-19 World cup 2008, has delivered promising performances across the tournament.

However, he was in talks with other teams for higher pay, something which defied the league’s terms and conditions due to which he was banned from played 2010 season.
The bowling all-rounder returned to IPL 2011 season for Kochi Tuskers Kerala and joined CSK in 2012 season. He played for Gujarat Lions during his CSK stay which was banned in 2016 and 2017 seasons.
Luke Pomersbach
Australian cricketer, Luke Pomersbach alleged assault of a US woman and her fiance created a controversy in the cash-rich league. The incident took place at the Hotel maurya after the match against the Delhi Daredevils as Luke Pomersbach plied his trade for RCB.

He was brought at the Delhi court and got bail, but was suspended by the franchise for the rest of the competition. After the he played in a season a year later.
Steve Smith
Australia batter Steve Smith was set to captain Rajasthan Royal in 2018 season, but his involvement in the ball tampering scandal during the Newlands Test against South Africa in March 2018. As the Australia captain he did not stop the illegal activity due to which he was imposed a year ban from international cricket.

As a result, he did not get a IPL contract. They also declared that Smith would be eligible for captaincy a year after his ban ends.
Ajinkya Rahane replaced the New South Wales batsman as the Royals’ captain and lifted the franchise to the playoffs. However, Smith retained his spot in the squad in 2019.
David Warner
One of the finest captains in IPL, having led the Sunrisers Hyderabad to the title in 2016 and the playoffs in the subsequent season.

David Warner is also one of the best openers in tournament’s history, but did not playe in 2018 season. Due to revealed to be the mastermind in the ball-tampering saga, bore the same punishment as Steve Smith.
However, he did now eligible for Australia captaincy. Warner could not play for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018 and Kane Williamson took charge.
Harry Brook
England star batter Harry Brook has been banned from IPL for next two years ahead of the IPL 2025 season. As per BCCI‘s new policy, Brook cannot enter the auction for two more years after he decided to skip this IPL season at the last moment.

According to the new rule, any player who pulls out after being picked in the auction can be banned from the league and player auction for the next two seasons.
Delhi Capitals had bought him for INR 6.25 crore in the auction, but this is the second time in a row he has withdrawn from the tournament.
