IPL Fair Play Award 2026: The Fair Play Award is given after each season to the team with the best record of fair play. The winner is decided based on the points the umpires award to the teams.
After each match, the two on-field umpires and the third umpire score the performance of both teams. According to the IPL 2026 schedule, the first match will be played between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore on 22 March 2025 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

How IPL Fair Play Award Points Calculated
- A team can be awarded a total of ten points per match.
- Out of which, four points are given on the basis of how the team has adhered to the “spirit of the game” in the opinion of the umpires.
- The other three criteria are based on respect towards the opposition, the laws of cricket and the umpires. Each of these three criteria represents 2 points.
- If a team has got two points in the criterion, its performance is considered as “good”, whereas getting one or zero points indicates that its performance is “average” or “bad” respectively.

What is Fair Play Award in IPL?
At the end of each IPL season, apart from the IPL trophy, BCCI awards the Fair Play Award on considering the team’s on-field behaviour. The criteria cover the team’s respect towards the opposition, the laws of cricket, the umpires, and more importantly how the team has adhered to the “spirit of the game” in the opinion of the umpires.
Based on these at the end of each match, the participating teams will be awarded points and the teams with the highest points at the end of the game will be awarded the Fair Play Award of the season.
