RCB Captain 2022: At the end of the IPL 2021 Virat Kohli shocks every RCB fan and cricket community by announcing that he will step down as RCB skipper from the next season. Right after Kohli’s announcement the question for “Who will be the captain of RCB in IPL 2022” gets as a heated topic to discuss.
RCB Captain 2022
Earlier to the IPL 2022 Mega Auction many believes that Maxwell might lead the team who has been retained by RCB for INR 11 crores.
But post the 2022 Auction the competition for Virat’s place has been got high as RCB roped Faf du Plessis and Dinesh Karthik in the auction who have the experience of leading a team. It is likely that RCB would pick an overseas leader for their campaign in IPL 2022.
As expected RCB announced Faf du Plessis as their captain for the upcoming IPL 2022 season. RCB made this huge announcement during the RCB unbox event. Watch the RCB unbox event below:
RCB Captain Prediction before the Announcement
Faf du Plessis
Du Plessis, who was bought by RCB for Rs 7 crores in IPL 2022 auction, was an integral part of CSK since he joined them in 2012 and has won two IPL titles with the ‘Yellow Brigade’. The South African batter amassed 2932 runs from 93 innings at the strike rate of 132.
Faf has also led South Africa in 112 matches across all formats until 2020 and given his captaincy experience, the batter can be handed the leadership role by the RCB management.
RCB on their Twitter handle shared a post, saying: “The million-dollar question doing the rounds now. Who will be RCB’s next captain? Who do you think will be ideal to lead the Royal Challengers in #IPL2022, 12th Man Army?”.
Reaction to it, former England captain Michael Vaughan, in three words, put forward his pick to be the man to lead the franchise in IPL 2022: “FAF should be”.

Brad Hogg on Faf du Plessis
Hogg, who played 21 IPL games for Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders, said Du Plessis could not only lead RCB but also could bat along with Kohli in the top order.
“RCB are quite well set up with better all-rounders down that lower-order. It’s going to be interesting to see who captains that team. I’ll get Du Plessis to captain it,” Hogg said on his YouTube channel.
“Having Faf du Plessis up the order with Kohli is a better opening partnership, more experienced. Faf is explosive and Kohli can bat through the innings and play that backend game where he can take the match away. Who they bat at No.3 will be a key question,” he added.
Australian opener batsman Glenn Maxwell is a top contender to lead RCB in the IPL 2022. Maxwell is retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore for the upcoming season for a massive INR 11 Crores along with Virat Kohli and Mohammad Siraj.
The all-rounder was impressive for Bangalore in the IPL 2021 where he scored the bulk of runs for the team. He performed under-pressure more often than not and proved to be a valuable asset to the team.
Former RCB skipper, Daniel Vittori reckons Glenn Maxwell will be the successor of Virat Kohli.
“Look, I think Maxwell will be the likely heir to Kohli. He obviously produced [results] in this last year and he was an exceptional player for them. He has the experience of captaining the Melbourne Stars. We talked about most teams wanting to find a captain in their retained players. It has happened too often that teams know they’ve got a captain, they know they can lock that away and they don’t have to find one in the auction which can cloud your thinking at times,” said Daniel Vittori.
“I do believe Maxwell will be named captain. It could be [for] just one season, to see how it goes but it’s a pretty good stop-gap measure as they build to the future,” Vettori added.
Dinesh Karthik has played for RCB in 2015 and has led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the past. Whereas Faf has a tremendous experience of leading South Africa and his past batting record with Chennai Super Kings is also phenomenal.
Kohli was RCB’s captain since 2011 and the team’s best show came in the year 2016 in which they ended runners-up.
Kohli led from the front, amassing a staggering 963 runs – which is still a record for the highest tally by a batter in a single edition of the IPL.
After bagging the wooden spoon twice in three years, RCB turned a new leaf in the last two editions of the IPL, reaching the Playoffs on both occasions.
