The Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel has been punished for maintaining a slow over-rate during the IPL 2025 games against Mumbai on Sunday.

He has been fined INR 12 Lakh for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct as Mumbai Indians’ batting innings went just a bit over time in the first half.

Axar Patel admitted to the offence with the officials decision final and binding.

“Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 29 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.”

“As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Patel was fined INR 12 lakhs,” the BCCI said in a release.

He will be joining the list of captains for incurring slow-over rates fines including Mumbai Indians’ Hardik Pandya, Lucknow Super Giants’ Rishabh Pant, Rajasthan Royals’s Riyan Parag and Sanju Samson and RCB’s Rajat Patidar.

In their first home game, Delhi Capitals were set to chase a mammoth target as Mumbai posted 206 runs. Delhi were impressive in their batting with scoring 119/1 in 10.1 overs but just fell apart after 119-run partnership between Abhishek Porel and Karun Nair came to an end.

They went on to lose 9 wickets for 74 runs with the middle-order Collapse. Karn Sharma and Mitchell Santer went on to pick three and two wickets respectively, helping to dismantle Delhi’s line up to secure their second victory.

The mat witnessed a dramatic finish in the 19th over. With 23 runs needed from the final 12 balls, Ashutosh Sharma hit two boundaries off Jasprit Bumrah, but three consecutive run-outs in the last three balls of the over favoured Mumbai.

Delhi Capitals will play their next match against Rajasthan Royals in April 16 at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
