Umran Malik arrives at SRH camp

The Indian fast bowler Umran Malik arrived at SRH’s pre-season camp on Tuesday where he shared a message with his fans.

Umran Malik made his international debut through his impressive performance in the Indian Premier League. After playing only three matches in the 2021 season, Umran was retained by the franchise for the next season.

He made 14 appearances in the 2022 season and emerged as SRH’s highest wicket-taker for the season with 22 wickets in his name.

But he played only 8 matches in the 2023 season where he picked only 5 wickets and conceded at almost 11 RPO. Since then he was snubbed for the white ball series for his weak performance.

Umran Malik was awarded with BCCI Central Contract for fast bowlers by the cricket board. “The Selection Committee has also recommended Fast Bowling contracts for the following athletes – Akash Deep, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Umran Malik, Yash Dayal, and Vidwath Kaverappa,” said BCCI in its press release.

While arriving at Hyderabad, the player said he was feeling good and looking to see his fans on the ground.

“Feeling is good. I aim to do well for the fans and show them that we can win. Inshallah, we’ll see you soon on the ground and do well for you,” Umran Malik said.

Recently, SRH has made some changes in both the team and management. After Dale Steyn pulled out from the bowling coach position, James Franklin was appointed for the position.

On the other hand, the Australian Skipper Pat Cummins who was bought by the franchise for INR 20.50 crores during the IPL 2024 auction at Dubai has been appointed as the new captain for the season.

Pat Cummins was the second highest expensive player in the tournament’s history. The decision comes after Australia’s triumph in the ODI World Cup and World Test Championship in 2023.

While speaking to the media, Pat Cummins said, “India is like a second home. We spend so much time here. IPL you’ve got your home teams.”

“So you feel like you’ve got plenty of fans Or, you know, at least cricket fans that have, you know, supported you or, you know, lots of people come up to me and say, Oh, I’m from Kolkata or I go for KKR. So it’s nice feeling like not everyone’s against you,” concluded Cummins.

With the 17th edition of the IPL 2024 set to begin on March 22, all the franchises have started their preparations for the tournament.

CSK and RCB will be playing their first match on the IPL 2024 schedule at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium while SRH will be playing their first match of the campaign against KKR on March 23 at Eden Gardens.
