‘It didn’t look too bad,’ Tanveer Sangha on Manuka Oval Pitch conditions ahead of Thunder’s BBL openers

Ahead of Sydney Thunder’s match against Brisbane Heat in BBL 2023, the spinner Tanveer Sangha opens on his concerns about pitch conditions at Manuka Oval.

Sydney Thunders will be playing their first BBL 2023 match on December 12 at Manuka Oval Stadium. With the rain-soaked pitch at Oval, Sangha opens on his views about the upcoming match.

The Bowler Tanveer Sangha has neglected his concerns about the pitch reports on the Manuka Oval ahead of their BBL opening matches. The pitch has been soaked due to recently poured rain during the final day of last week’s Prime Minister’s Xl match.

The warmup match between Pakistan and Prime Minister Xl on Pakistan’s tour of Australia 2023 was stopped after 55 kph winds blew the covers off the field that had been used to protect the ground from soaking wet due to rain.

On Saturday morning, after reviewing the field, the officials announced that the game ended in a draw. On this occasion, a BBL match between Sydney Thunders and Brisbane Heat is scheduled to be played on December 12 at the stadium. Sydney Thunders usually play their first game of BBL summer in the Oval stadium.

With wet conditions, the final preparations on the pitch were still under process. However, the bowler has shown no concerns about the ground conditions.

“It didn’t look too bad. It looked fine,” Sangha said. “We expect a pretty true surface, a pretty nice wicket, but I think all the boys said it’s a nice batting wicket.

Thunder will be depending on their players Cameron Bancroft and Nathan McAndrew who played for PM Xl’s last week and will have more chance to inspect the wicket that will be used.

“Red ball’s a completely different game from T20 Big Bash but I think it’ll turn out pretty good, Manuka’s usually a good ground, has really good crowds. I’m really looking forward to playing there.”

The talk about the pitch conditions comes after the clash between Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers was called off due to the intervention of rain.

Sangha looks forward to the English top-order batter Alex Hales who is going to feature in the fifth tournament at the Thunder. Recently, the batter has featured in the T10 league in Abu Dhabi.

“He’s huge for us,” Sangha said. “The batting he brings, how dominating he is, how scared our opponents are to bowl to him, I think that brings a lot of fear and brings us a lot of confidence,” he concluded.

After completing their warmup match, Pakistan will be playing their first Test match between December 14-18 at Optus Stadium.
