Indian Bowlers With 5 Wicket Hauls in World Cup History: Kapil Dev becomes the first Indian cricketer to bag a five-wicket haul in the World Cup tournament. Kapil Dev bagged his first and only World Cup 5 wicket haul in 1983 against Australia.

On June 13, 1983, India faced Australia at Trent Bridge, Nottingham where Kapil Dev dismissed Kepler Wessels, Rod Marsh, Ken MacLeay, Tom Hogan, and Geoff Lawson and registered his five wickets haul.

Though India lost the game by 162 runs, it laid a strong foundation for the team India to win the World Cup title in 1983.

After the 1983 World Cup, Venkatesh Prasad and Robin Singh each bagged a 5-wicket haul in the 1999 World Cup tournament against Pakistan and Sri Lanka respectively. In the very next year, Ashish Nehra bagged his first wicket haul against England in 2003.

In India’s second World Cup title-winning tournament(2011), Yuvraj Singh bagged his World Cup five wickets haul against Ireland.

Shami dismissed Will Young(17 runs), Rachin Ravindra(75 runs), Mitchell Santner(1 run), Matt Henry(0 run) and Daryl Mitchell(130 runs). Shami’s second World Cup five-wicket haul comes at an economy of 5.40 in 10 overs.
