The SLW vs PAKW clash in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, played on October 24, has been abandoned due to rain.
The match has been reduced to 34 overs (DLS method) after the rain delayed the toss. Sri Lanka invited Pakistan to bat first, where the latter went on to score 18 runs in 4.2 overs before rain interrupted the game again.
Muneeba Ali and Omaima Sohail went on to score 7* and 9* respectively before the rain started to pour again.
The rain is so persistent that it continued to pour till the cut-off time for 20 20-over game. However, after seeing the conditions, the umpires called off the game at Colombo.

Speaking on the match abandonment, Fatima Sana said, “I think we were very good on the bowling side and the fielding side, but I think we are lacking in the batting. So, in a couple of matches, we were up to a very good mark and we were very close against Australia and England.”
“But unfortunately, we were not crossing the main line, so that’s the only thing. Yeah, I think as a captain, as the youngest captain, I have a lot of… These matches gave me a lot of boost from the World Cup.”
“And I think the only thing is the weather didn’t go in our favour in the England match and the last couple of matches. Yeah, definitely. We are not playing much cricket in the recent past. We just qualified after the one series.”
“So, I think definitely we need much more cricket after the World Cup. Definitely in the next year, we have a T20 World Cup as well. So, hopefully we will get much cricket and prepare ourselves for the big events,” said Fatima Sana.
Meanwhile, Chamari Athapaththu said, “I will try to control what I can control. I feel as a team, the expectations are high when we come to this World Cup. Unfortunately, we lost the first game against India and another game against England.”
“We’ve made a lot of mistakes, in the field, as a batting unit, and as a bowling unit. This isn’t the way we want to play, unfortunately, but we’re focusing on what we can do better in the future.”
“So, yeah, let’s see. We have good young players and good senior players. The seniors always go and talk to the youngsters and give advice,” added Chamari Athapaththu.
