Following Bangladesh’s pullout from the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, all eyes have been shifted to Pakistan, which backed the former on their refusal to travel to India for the marquee event.

The dispute started when Mustafizur Rahman was removed from the KKR squad for the IPL 2026 season due to political tensions between the countries. Bangladesh demanded ICC move their World Cup games to Sri Lanka.

However, during the ICC meeting, except for Pakistan, all other members unanimously stood against shifting the games, due to which Bangladesh decided to pull out of the tournament.

As a result, Scotland has been named as the replacement that has secured the highest grade in the Men’s T20I Team Rankings next to the teams qualified for the ICC tournament.

On this occasion, Pakistan’s participation hangs in the balance as PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi cast uncertainty over their participation in the marquee event.

He also confirmed that PCB will strictly follow the government’s stance, and the decision will be out by Friday or Monday after consulting with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Now, the PCB might consider the options to withdraw from the competition to protest against the ICC’s call over Bangladesh’s stance. However, the pull out is highly impossible as PCB will consider the sanctions imposed by ICC, including the suspension from World and continental tournaments.

Who Will Replace Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2026 if they pull out?

If Pakistan decides to pull out of the T20 World Cup, then the next highest-ranked nation in the Men’s T20I rankings – Uganda will be named as the replacement.

Placed in Group A, they will play their group stage games alongside India, Namibia, the Netherlands and the USA. Uganda played in the previous edition of the tournament, where they were eliminated in the group stages.

If playing, Uganda will make their second appearance in the marquee event and are yet to register their name in the T20 World Cup winners’ list.

Is Pakistan pulling out of the tournament officially confirmed?

At this moment, PCB hasn’t made any decision on this matter, and the call will be made after consulting with Pakistan prime minister Shehbaz Sharif.

However, pull-outs are highly unlikely due to the consequences of boycotting the tournament. Pakistan has already given concessions over playing their games in neutral venues and further pushing the Sports governing body have an severe impact.

After Naqvi’s statement, a 15-member Pakistan Squad has also been unveiled by the PCB for the tournament, which highly suggests their participation in the ICC event.

If they decide to play, the tournament will go as per the plan. As per the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 schedule, Pakistan will play in the opener match against the Netherlands on February 07 at the Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo.
