India is scheduled to play in the 9th ICC World Cup 2023 match on October 11 at Arun Jaitley Stadium. On this occasion, the batting coach Vikram Rathour revealed the health update on the player Shubman Gill at a pre-match conference.

The coach Vikram Rathour disclosed that the young batter was hospitalized as a precaution and has returned to the hotel in Chennai. He had been suffering from Illness since the Indian team’s travel to Chennai to play against Australia in the World Cup opener.

The BCCI gave an update on Monday that Shubman Gill is ruled out of the match against Afghanistan. The sources have reported that he will be likely to miss the highly anticipated IND-PAK World Cup clash which is scheduled on October 14.

“He is recovering well. He was hospitalized, yes, but that was more as a precaution. He is back in the hotel; he is recovering well. So, being monitored by the medical team and whatever update we get, we are hoping that he will recover pretty soon. He is looking good actually. He will be in the mix soon,” Rathour said on the eve of the Afghanistan match in Delhi.

Rathour was confident about India’s batting unit and stated that the batters are well-experienced in the limited-over format.

“We have a very experienced batting unit at the moment. I don’t think that message is required. Everyone knows how they have to play in this format. We have a very settled batting unit at the moment. Everyone has their own way.

We are giving them the freedom to play the way they want to play. And we understand that everybody has a different way of playing. But everyone has their own way of playing and we have the trust that if they play and back themselves, we will achieve what we are looking to achieve,” Rathour added.

On Shubman Gill’s absence, India had Ishan Kishan to replace him in the squad as the opener alongside Rohit Sharma.

“He has opened in the past and he has played as an opener. So, no specific discussion on that. He understands the moment. That was the reason he has been in the team. “We knew that he can bat top of the order or in the middle order. So, he has done that before. So, no specific discussion on that. Just hoping that he comes good tomorrow,” said Rathour.

India is currently playing against Afghanistan at Arun Jaitley Stadium. Winning the toss, Afghanistan chose to bat where Bumrah was impressive through his bowling as he dismissed four wickets while Hardik Pandya scalped two wickets.

Hashmatullah and Omarzai were impressive as they joined the highest partnerships for Afghanistan with a score of 121. By the end, Afghanistan scored 272 runs losing 8 wickets on 50 overs.
