The Indian star Shubman Gill is likely to miss the highly anticipated IND-PAK clash in the World Cup 2023 due to his illness.

Shubman Gill has been suffering from illness since India’s travel to Chennai after the warmup games. After being diagnosed with dengue, he was ruled out of the opening match.

On this occasion, a source has revealed that he’ll be missing the highly anticipated clash against Pakistan due to the platelet count dropping below 1,00,000. He was under observation in the hospital but has returned to his hotel for rest and recovery.

He didn’t travel to Delhi for India’s next match and with a two-day gap for the IND-PAK clash in Narendra Modi Stadium. He is expected to rejoin the team once he receives clearance from his doctors. He has been responding well to the treatment and has shown improvement in health.

“Gill’s platelet count dropped below 1,00,000 and he was hospitalized a day before – October 8 – for observation purposes. Nothing alarming there as he is already back in the hotel on October 9 and continues to receive treatment there. Ever since he has landed in Chennai, all his treatment – from a regular dose of glucose and other procedures – has been happening in hotel only,” a source reported.

Ishan Kishan replaced Gill in the squad failed to create an impression on the match against Australia. Winning the toss Australia chose to bat where David Warner and Mitchell Marsh opened the innings while Jasprit Bumrah opened the bowling attack.

Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah dismissed two wickets each while Mohammed Siraj, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Hardik Pandya dismissed one wicket each. Australian batters struggled to score runs against India’s intense bowling attack and was sent out on regular interval.  By the end, Australia scored 199 runs losing all 10 wickets on the 3rd ball of the last over.

With the target of 200 runs, India started their innings where Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan opened the innings while Mitchell Starc opened the bowling attack.

With the dismissal of the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer by Hazlewood on a duck in the second over, India was down to three for two runs by the end of 2nd over. Hazlewood dismissed two wickets on his first over in the innings.

With the partnership of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, India got back on its feet with a partnership score of 165 runs helping the side on the scoreboard.

After Kohli’s dismissal for 85 runs, Hardik Pandya joined forces with KL Rahul leading the side to the path of victory. KL Rahul was impressive as he scored an unbeaten 97 runs on 115 deliveries. By the end, India won the match by six wickets scoring 201 runs in 42nd over.

India will be playing their second match against Afghanistan on October 11 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.
