The 31-year-old Shai Hope has been named in the West Indies Squad while Brandon King has earned his maiden call-up for the upcoming test series against Australia.
The test series of the Australia tour of West Indies 2025 will be the first assignment for West Indies under Roston Chase’s captaincy. Jomel Warrican will be serving as deputy to Chase.
Hope, who played a test for the West Indies all the way back in 2021, has been called back into the squad after his consistent performances in the white-ball format.
Meanwhile, three uncapped players, Kelvon Anderson, Tevin Imlach and Joyann Layne, have been named in the West Indies squad. On the other hand, Anderson Phillip also returns having impressed with a five-wicket haul for the West Indies A against South Africa A.
However, wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva and veteran Kemar Roach has been omitted from the squad
The changes comes after considering West Indies recent test series against Pakistan, as the team looks to refresh and rebuild key areas of the squad.
Speaking during the squad announcement, West Indies head coach Daren Sammy said, “I’m excited about the inclusion of young prospect Kevlon Anderson, who’s earned his place after consistent performances in our domestic competitions to help provide stability at the top.”
“The return of Shai Hope is welcomed, given his white-ball consistency. Brandon King’s inclusion addresses a role we’ve identified as needing special attention to elevate our Test team in the global rankings,” said head coach Daren Sammy.
The bowling unit consists of Alzarri Joseph, Jayden Seales, and Shamar Joseph. They will be supported by Johann Layne who has claimed 63 wickets in just 17 first class matches.
The first match of the test series will be played between June 25 and 30 at Kensington Oval, Barbados.
