Sayali Satghare Becomes First Concussion Substitute in WPL History

Gujarat’s Sayali Satghare became the first concussion substitute in the history of WPL when she replaced Hemalatha during the WPL 2024 match against Delhi Capitals on March 03.

Sayali came in as a concussion substitute for Dayalan Hemalatha as the latter struck on the forehead while attempting a catch during the match between Gujarat Giants and Delhi Capitals on the WPL 2024 schedule played last Sunday.

Hemalatha got a blow in her head on the 5th ball of the 14th over where Kathryn Bryce was bowling for Jess Jonassen. She eventually missed the catch and held to her head for a while, which required immediate attention from the Physio.

Sayali who registered for the WPL auction with a base price of INR 10 lakhs went unsold and was roped into the Gujarat Giants squad as a replacement for Kashvee Gautam.

She was impressive during the match between Mumbai and Nagaland in the Senior One-day Trophy 2021 where she picked seven wickets for Mumbai and helped the side to bowl Nagaland out for 17 runs.

She also helped Mumbai to clinch Senior Women’s T20 trophy, claiming eight wickets in 10 balls at an economy rate of 5.90.

Coming to the match, Delhi Capitals batted first and scored 163 runs on their innings, where Meg Lanning scored 55 runs after opening for Delhi Capitals.  Alice Capsey and Annabel Sutherland are the other scorers for the side.

Meghna Singh bagged four wickets for Giants helping the side to conclude Capitals innings. With the target of 164 runs, Beth Mooney and Laura Wolvaardt opened for Giants where the latter was sent out on a duck.

Ashleigh Gardner scored 40 runs on 31 deliveries including five fours and 1 six. Sayali stayed unbeaten with 7 runs as the Giants lost the match by 25 runs.

Gujarat Giants scored 138 runs in the match losing 8 wickets in 20 overs at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Delhi Capitals tops the list of the WPL points table with three wins out of four matches, while Gujarat Giants stands fifth with four defeats in the tournament.

Delhi Capitals will be playing their next match on March 05 against Mumbai Indians in the 2024 season while Gujarat Will be playing against Bangalore on March 6 at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
