The assistant coach, Ryan ten Doeschate, has been disappointed with the Indian cricket team following their 0-2 defeat in the T20I series against Ireland.

Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, India were whitewashed 2-0 in the two-match series as Ireland registered their first series win over India. This defeat has marked India’s 16-series winning streak in T20Is.

Reacting to the defeat, India’s assistant coach ten Doeschate has acknowledged the disappointment within the camp but credited Ireland for their disciplined performances.

“There’s a little bit of disbelief,” said Ryan ten Doeschate. “It’s also very hard to be critical of guys who have just won a World Cup. We’ve been outdone or outsmarted by a team that just did the basics very well.

“So firstly, credit to Ireland, and secondly, the learnings for us in terms of being able to adapt to different conditions. That’s probably the biggest takeaway from this. The guys really know how to play in India. This is a good lesson in the fact that we’re going to have to adapt and play slightly differently when we go to different countries and play against different teams.”

According to Doeschate, India’s inability to adapt to new conditions after playing T20 cricket in the subcontinent proved to be decisive.

With Irish batters consistently denied scoring opportunities straight down the ground, Indian batters struggled throughout the series.

That was essentially our undoing,” he said. “It’s things we spoke about before, but we just didn’t address them well enough out in the middle. I think the big thing was the wind.

Ryan ten Doeschate added that Indian batters will need to adapt to overseas conditions ahead of the future overseas assignment.

“Again, absolutely no excuses, but when presented with a different challenge, we have to find solutions to play differently, in a better manner. I thought Ireland did that very well with the ball. They never let us hit straight. In two matches, I think we hit two straight sixes. They were both off the spinner. They just did the basics really well, and we couldn’t combat that.

Ryan ten Doeschate added that Indian batters will need to adapt to overseas conditions ahead of the future overseas assignment.

The England tour begins with a T20I series with the first game played on July 01 at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street.
