Australian captain Steve Smith who opted to bowl first after winning the toss against England at Lahore says “Looks a pretty good surface”.
The fourth match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has been scheduled to be played between Australia and England on 22 February at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
Australia and England have played 160 ODIs so far where Australia have the upper hand with 90 wins. Australia has won the ICC Champions Trophy a couple of times while England hasn’t won a single title but has reached the final twice in 2004 and 2013.
ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Australia vs England game is also the first time that England and Australia will be playing an ODI match on Pakistani soil.
Notably, Australia have not won a match in the Champions Trophy across the last two editions – they have lost three while three ended in no results. On the other hand, England played their last ODI in Pakistan back in December 2005.
After winning the toss, Australian captain Steven Smith said “We’re gonna have a bowl. Looks a pretty good surface. There’s a bit of dew when we were practising, so we’ll like to chase later on. Short, Head, myself, Marnus, Inglis, Carey, Maxwell, Dwarshuis, Ellis, Spencer Johnson and Zampa.
(On playing two left-handed pacers) Little bit of swing up top, we’ll try to utilise that as much as possible.
(Carey) He’s been batting really nicely. The two keepers played together in the Test matches, worked out well and both are quality batters. Always exciting, looking forward to getting started today”.
