LPL 2024 Auction Set to Conduct on May 21 in Colombo

The players’ auction for the second edition of the Lanka Premier League(LPL) will be conducted on May 21, 2024. The LPL 2024 Auction will be held at the Hotel Shangi-La, Colombo starting at noon.

The LPL 2024 auction will be live broadcast on both television and digital platforms for the fans to enjoy the live moments of the event.

Sri Lanka Cricket Board(SLC) have confirmed that over 500 overseas players have registered for the upcoming auction. New Zealand star players Tim Southee, James Neesham, Mushfiqur Rahim, Usman Khawaja, Tabraiz Shamsi, Najmul Shanto, Jason Behrendorff, Reece Topley, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and many other star international players have registered for the LPL 2024 auction.

During the initial three editions, the players were picked by a ‘player draft.’ Every team has the option of having a maximum of 24 and a minimum of 20 players in a squad, while each squad should consist of six overseas players.

It will be mandatory to play a U23 player (Sri Lanka) in the playing XI. The auction will be shown live across TV and digital platforms.

The Lanka Premier League 2024 will begin on July 1 with the final game set to play on July 21 in R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

The 2024 edition of the tournament will feature 5 teams where a total of 24 matches will be played in a Double round-robin and playoff format. Like the previous year, the dates of the LPL 2024 will also collide with the dates of The Hundred and Major League Cricket (MLC) 2024.

If Sri Lanka qualifies for the finals of the T20 World Cup 2024 which was scheduled to be played on June 29 in the West Indies, then it would be difficult for the organisers to begin the tournament on the slated date.
