India and Australia will lock horns to play the WTC 2021-23 final game. Australia qualifies for the WTC 2023 Final match after defeating India in the 3rd Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023.

India qualified for the WTC 2021-23 final match after the 4th Test of Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 ended in a draw. Notably, India won the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 by 2-1.

Ahead of the WTC 2021-23 final game, India faces back-to-back blows as many of the Indian star players were ruled out of the match owing to various reasons.

Rishabh Pant

A day ahead of new year’s eve, Indian cricketer, Rishabh Pant met with a car accident and was admitted to the hospital on December 30, 2022.

Pant suffered multiple injuries when his BMW car collided with a road divider on the Delhi-Dehradun highway. Pant suffered injuries on his head, back and feet but is in stable condition.

The incident took place between 5:30-6:00 AM while Pant travels from Delhi to his residence in Roorkee. The incident exactly took place near Mohammadpur Jat under the Kotwali Mangalore area of Roorkee.

Regarding the accident, Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar told IT that Pant was driving his BMW car that caught fire after hitting the divider at the Narsan border. Pant claimed he lost control of the car after falling asleep while driving, according to the Director General of Police in Uttarakhand. Rishabh Pant was alone in the car at the time of the accident and broke a window to escape.

Owing to this accident, Rishabh Pant was ruled out of the IPL 2023, WTC 2021-23 final game.

Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah who suffers from a back injury struggles a lot to make his comeback into the Indian cricket team. Team India missed the service of the leading pacer in many international games.

Loading the pressure, Bumrah is set to miss the much-awaited WTC 2021-23 final game. In August 2022, Bumrah was diagnosed with a stress reaction in his back and was ruled out of India’s Asia Cup campaign later that month.

However, in September, Bumrah was declared fit and was picked in India’s T20 World Cup squad. The same squad also featured in India’s build-up to the tournament with home games against Australia and South Africa.

Bumrah featured in two of the three T20s against Australia but was pulled out on the eve of the South Africa series, India’s last before the World Cup after he complained of back pain

Bumrah’s last appearance for India was against Australia in the T20I series at home before getting sidelined with a stress reaction in his back.

While Bumrah was expected to play in the Australia test series, BCCI decides not to rush him as the ongoing year was packed with ICC events.

Before the start of the Border Gavaskar trophy 2023, Rohit Sharma confirms that Bumrah will not be available for the first two tests while he expects Bumrah to be back for the last two test series.

Later, BCCI confirms that Bumrah will not be a part of the Indian squad for the WTC 2021-23 final game.

Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer who was named in the Indian squad for the Australia 3-match ODI series in 2023 was ruled out of the series before the 1st match. Iyer had to leave the Ahmedabad Test due to a recurrence of a back injury and will undergo surgery.

“Yes, he will have his back surgery abroad. He is likely to be out of action for at least five months with full rehabilitation,” a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
