India secured a massive win (won by an innings and 300 runs) against Afghanistan after an impressive spell from debutant Manav Suthar played at Mullanpur.

Apart from Suthar’s heroics in Afghanistan’s first innings, Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav put up an impressive spell in their second innings to trigger Afghanistan’s batting collapse.

The Shubman Gill-led side set up a brilliant performance against Afghanistan as they consistently produced batting standards, putting up a massive first innings total, and dismantling the opponents’ batting lineup irrespective of the match conditions.

Speaking on the post-match presentation, Shubman Gill said, “I think a complete win from our side. We ticked all the boxes, so very happy with that.”

“The plans for the team going ahead—it is simple. When you are batting in the first innings, try to post 350 on the board every time. No matter where we are playing and what kind of conditions we get. We have the trust in our bowling group that we can take 20 wickets anywhere.”

“The kind of quality, I think, Manav, Washi and Kuldeep have, all three of them, there was never any doubt. It’s all about getting the experience and getting several overs and seeing, on wickets like these, how to set the batsman up, keep varying the pace, keep testing the batsman in different areas.”

Batting first, India declared their first innings after scoring 564/8 after brilliant centuries from Shubman Gill and KL Rahul. Starting their innings, Afghanistan bowled out for 152 runs in their innings and were forced to follow on. Afghanistan’s batters got dismissed at frequent intervals due to poor shot selections.

This was the same case in the second innings as the visitors got dismissed for 112 runs in their second innings, as India secured a historic win by an innings and 300 runs.

Manav Suthar played a crucial role with a six-wicket haul in the first innings, while Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav excelled in Afghanistan’s second innings.
