Virat Kohli scripts multiple records in the Pakistan vs India Asia Cup 2023 Super Four game played on September 11 at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 122 runs and registered his 77th international century and also became the player to bag the most Player of the Match awards for India in the ODI Asia Cup.
Right after the Pakistan vs India Asia Cup 2023 group match ended with no result, the board decided to add a reserve day for their Group Four clash on September 10. With rain expected on the game day, ACC allotted the very next day(September 11) as the reserve day for the game.
As expected the Rain intervened the game while India batted 24.1 overs and scored 147 runs for 2 wickets loss. On the reserve day, the game resumed from 24.1 over where Virat and KL Rahul continued to bat.
Virat and KL Rahul both registered a century each and moved India’s score to 356 runs at the end of 50 overs.
Pakistan on the other hand made a terrible start where their top-order batters were sent out to the pavilion before crossing a total of 100 runs. Pakistan lost all their 10 wickets for 128 runs and lost the match by 228 runs.
Kuldeep Yadav bagged his second five-wicket haul by dismissing Fakhar Zaman, Agha Salman, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, and Faheem Ashraf.
India captain Rohit Sharma thanked the groundsmen on behalf of the whole team for the extraordinary efforts they made during the game.
“We just wanted to get out on the park, to get some game time. A lot of guys haven’t had that. That could only happen thanks to a great effort from the groundsmen. I know how tough it is to cover and remove covers from the whole ground. On behalf of the entire team, we would like to thank them”.
Rohit also praised the Indian batters who executed an impressive performance in India’s 228-run defeat against Pakistan.
“(On batting) Fantastic performance, right from yesterday. When we started, we knew the wicket was good and we had to adjust with the rain, The two experienced (Kohli an Rahul) guys we knew they’d take time to get their eye in and then we can get going”.
Rohit Sharma also praised Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah who made his international comeback after a long gap.
“(On Bumrah) Looked good, he swung it both ways and he’s worked really hard for the last 8-10 months. Bumrah is only 27, for him to miss games isn’t ideal but the way he bowled showed what he is all about”.
“Looking at how we batted, there were lots of positives with the openers and then Virat and KL. Virat’s innings was brilliantly paced. And then KL, to get back from injury and then to know 5 minutes before the toss he’s playing, to play that way shows the mindset of the player”, he added.
