The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that young batter Haider Ali had been arrested and later got out on Bail following a rape allegation during the Pakistan-England clash.
The 24-year-old was part of the ‘A’ team squad, provisionally suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) pending investigation.
Great Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed receiving a report of rape on Monday. “We have arrested a 24-year-old man,” said the GMP statement.
“It’s alleged that the incident occurred on Wednesday, 23 July 2025, at a premises in Manchester. The man has since been bailed pending further enquiries.”
Police in England typically do not same suspects at this stage of an investigation. Haider was arrested from Beckenham ground, where the Shaheens were playing against MCSAC.
“it’s apparently a rape case against a girl of Pakistani original,” a source said added that police seized Haider’s passport before releasing him on bail.
On the other hand, A PCB spokesperson said, “we were told about this case and investigation. We have suspended Haider until the investigation is completed and will conduct our own inquiry in the UK.”
The Shaheens’ UK tour, which ran from July 17 to August 06 featured two drawn three-day matches and a one-day series win. Most players have returned home except captain Saud Shakeel and Haider.
Haider Ali who debuted internationally in 2020, has played two ODIs and 35 T20Is for Pakistan. His career has faced prior setbacks, including a suspension for breaching Covid-19 protocols during the 2021 PSL.
Sources said that Haider was in the good books of Pakistan head coach Mike hesson who was about to include him in the Pakistan team for the T20I Tri-series in Sharjah later this month.
Pakistan has a history of Players’ misbehaviour in the past. Three top players – Salman Butt, then test skipper, Mohammad Amir, and Mohammad Asif were arrested on charges of spot fixing on the team’s tour of England in 2010. All three were jailed and banned for five years.
