KKR’s Mentor for IPL 2024: Gautam Gambhir will join head coach Chandrakant Pandit for the IPL 2024 season and will be a part of the KKR’s support staff.

The 2-time IPL Trophy winners Kolkata Knight Riders have been knocked out of the previous year’s tournament before entering the playoff round

KKR managed to register only 6 wins in their 14 league games in the previous year’s tournament. With the mega auction planned to host for the 2025 edition, KKR might make a few changes in their IPL 2024 squad.

BCCI planned to host the IPL 2024 Auction in Dubai on December 19 and set November 26 as the deadline for the teams to finalise their retention and released players list. Notably, this will be the first time an IPL auction is conducted overseas.

As of the previous season, BCCI allowed franchises to use the “TRADE” option where teams can exchange players between them.

Ahead of the Auction, KKR roped Gambhir as the mentor for their team for the IPL 2024 season. “I am not an emotional person and not many things move me, but this is different,” said Gambhir about his return to the franchise.

“This is back to where it all started. Today, there is a lump in my throat and fire in my heart as I think about slipping into that purple and gold jersey once again. I am not only coming back to KKR but I am coming back to the city of joy. I am back. I am hungry. I am number 23. Ami KKR.”

Shah Rukh Khan, co-owner of the KKR franchise, added: “Gautam has always been part of the family and this is our Captain coming back home in a different avatar as a mentor. He was sorely missed and now we all look forward to Chandu Sir and Gautam in instilling the never-say-die spirit and of sportsmanship they stand for, in creating magic with Team KKR.”

According to the IPL committee rules, each franchise can have 25 players in their squad, out of which a maximum of 8 can be foreign players. In Playing 11, each team can have a maximum of 4 overseas players in the mix.
