England has rejected a traditional post-series drink after the fifth and final Test of the Ashes 2023 at the Oval. The sources had reported to Australians that England had no desire on having post-series drinks.

The series concluded with a tie of 2-2 after England put impressive bowling against Australia on the final day at The Oval.

Australia looked for the win in the Ashes series with 3-1 needing 146 more runs with seven wickets in hand on the fifth day of the final Ashes Test. But England took four wickets in 19 balls before Stuart Broad took the final two wickets late to ensure victory for his side.

Australia retained the Ashes after a highly competitive and controversial series. Australian players had been hanging around for a while waiting for the English players to meet them after the match.

The Australians asked the English players about getting together for a drink but didn’t get a response from the home team who stayed behind locked doors.

“We don’t really care, we’ve got the urn, but after a hard-fought series, it is pretty pathetic,” the source reportedly said. “Talk about the spirit of cricket.”

England coach Brendon McCullum previously said earlier in the series that they didn’t want to have a beer with Australia due to the controversial stumping of Jonny Bairstow at Lord’s.

The Ashes 2023 series is full of controversy, including Lord’s Long Room abuse thrown toward the Aussies, and a dismissal of Johnny Bairstow English fans quite unhappy.

England coach Brendon McCullum went as far as claiming that he couldn’t see the two teams sharing a beer following the series.

“I can’t imagine we’ll be having a beer with them any time soon,” England coach Brendon McCullum has said.

However, Sydney Morning Herald has quoted an England team spokesman saying it was just a misunderstanding.

“After the media commitments at the end of the Test, both teams had their families and friends celebrating and reminiscing in the respective dressing rooms. That lasted quite a long period,” the spokesman said.

“After the formal proceedings we were going to invite Australia in for a drink and they had left. It’s a great shame that a drink wasn’t shared and the opportunity of looking back on an epic series.”
