“They Will Be Hurting” Clare Connor Vows England Review After Women’s Ashes Defeat

The England and Wales Cricket Board deputy CEO Clare Connor has committed to an honest review of England’s humiliating 16-0 defeat to Australia in the Women’s Ashes.

Despite certain efforts, the squad’s failures were taken under immediate analysis, leading to the possibility of changes for captain Heather Knight and coach Jon Lewis as England plans for future series.

Despite England not securing an Ashes Victory since 2014, Connor feels the lack of professionalism within the team. She acknowledged the pain and disappointment felt by players with speculations arising about potential changes in leadership roles.

Australia defeated England by an innings and 122 runs in the one-off test in Melbourne to finish a clean sweep of the multi-format series.

“This group of players care deeply about playing for England and they will be hurting, they are hurting hugely from what’s happened over this last month,” told Clare Connor on media.

England who have not won the Ashes since 2014, have had a number of disappointing performances in recent months and also suffered a group stage exit in last year’s Women’s T20 World Cup.

“There isn’t a lack of professionalism and I don’t recognise a cosiness. But all of that, I understand, is going to be brought into these conversations when a team has underperformed to the extent that we have.”

“There is nobody more disappointed about this tour than Heather and Jon,” Clare Connor said.

“They’ve poured every ounce of themselves into this and I think that’s been evident. Everything will be looked at with real honesty when we get back.

Meanwhile, Jon Lewis has been positive and revealed that he will be the suitable person to lead England women’s team after the white-wash against Australia.

“Cricket fans and everybody as disappointed as us by this tour can rest assured that we won’t shy away from holding the mirror up and having tough and honest conversations about how we move forward because this has been an enormously disappointing tour.”

England is set to host West Indies for the three match T20I and three ODI in May and June.
