    Bangladesh skipper Shakib ruled out for India’s clash in the World Cup owing to an injury

    The Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan will likely miss the upcoming World Cup match against India due to a left quad injury.

    Bangladesh was scheduled to play in the 11th match of the ICC World Cup 2023 against New Zealand where the former lost the match with 8 wickets.

    The Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan due to his left quad injury during the game. Shakib managed to score 40 runs in 51 balls and even bowled all his ten overs before leaving the field.

    He was sent for a scan immediately after the match. However, it is not the first time have been sidelined due to a finger injury and foot injury during team training.

    Winning the toss, New Zealand opt to bowl. Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan opened the innings while Trent Boult opened the bowling attack. Trent Boult was impressive with his bowling attack as he dismissed Litton Das on the first ball of the innings.

    Lockie Ferguson dismissed Tanzid Hasan for 16 runs and Mehidy Hasan Miraz was dismissed for 30 runs. With the fall of Shanto’s wicket for 7 runs by Glenn Phillips, Bangladesh was down to four wickets scoring 56 runs on the first ball of the 13th over.

    Shakib and Mushfiqur came to the rescue where they scored 40 and 66 runs respectively and were sent out by Lockie and Matt Henry. Their partnership score of 106 helped the side compete back in the competition.

    Towhid Hridoy was sent out with 13 runs by Boult while Mahmudullah scored 41* runs. Other batters were sent out with low figures and by the end of 50 overs, Bangladesh scored 245 runs losing nine wickets.

    With a target of 246, New Zealand’s Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra opened the innings, while Mustafizur Rahman opened the bowling attack. Rachin Ravindra was sent out with 9 runs and was sent out by Rahman on the third over of the innings.

    Devon Conway had a good start as they scored 45 runs and were sent out by Shakib. The skipper Kane Williamson was impressive with his 78 runs on 107 deliveries and went back to the pavilion on retiring hurt.

    “I am not sure whether he is available for the next game or not, but there is certainly some doubt since he has sustained a slight tear,” said the BCB official.

    Speaking at the post-match conference Shanto said, “He [Shakib] is going for his scans. We will know after that.”

    “We didn’t bat well. We didn’t start well. We batted poorly even in the last game in the first 10-15 overs.”

    “We have to bat a little responsibly. If we bat a little carefully in the first 10-15, then we can do well,” concluded Shanto.

    New Zealand will be playing their next world Cup match against Afghanistan on October 18 at MA Chidambaram Stadium.
