Rayudu hints at India’s Future Captain

India is playing in a five-match T20I series against Australia and leads the series 2-1. The hosts won the first two matches of the series and conceded a dramatic final loss in their third match in Guwahati.

India scored 222 runs in 20 overs, one of their highest scores in this series. But with a brilliant performance from Maxwell Australia chased down the target on the last ball of the match. Ruturaj had an aggressive match during the 3rd match of Australia tour of India where he scored an unbeaten 123 runs on 57 deliveries.

He was also impressive during the 2nd T20I match where he smashed 58 deliveries. The batter gained consistent performances in the Indian Premier League with Chennai Super Kings.

On this occasion, Ambati Rayudu who announced his retirement from IPL spoke about his Gaikwad’s performance in the middle and stated that he is being “under-used” by the Indian cricket team. He also claimed Gaikwad has the qualities to lead the national team as well. He also said that Ruturaj is talented and has the potential to be the captain of Indian team.

“For me, (someone) who is being underused by Indian cricket right now is Ruturaj. He has tremendous talent and I think he is the one guy who should be used more,” Rayudu said on a Podcast.

“His greatness is his talent. His timing on the ball, his shots, his fitness, his temperament. He has everything to become a world-class cricketer. He is very, very calm. And he knows what he’s doing. He has a silent aggression in him. I think it’ll be a great asset for India. Yeah, it’s too early to say.

“Yeah, hopefully you know after Dhoni bhai retires, he will start leading CSK and then on, I don’t know… he might go on to lead India too. He has already led India at the Asian Games,” said Rayudu.

The Indian B team secured a gold medal under the captaincy of Ruturaj Gaikwad at the Asian Games in the T20 format. The batter returns to the actions on Friday when India takes on Australia in the fourth T20I in Raipur.

India will be facing Australia in the 4th T20I match on December 01 at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium.
