Punjab Kings batter Shashank Singh has said that Rohit Sharma is his dream captain and wants to play under the Mumbai Indians legend at least once in his career.
Rohit Sharma is the joint-most successful captain in IPL history as he has won 5 titles during his time as captain in the tournament.
The Indian ODI and test captain has handed the MI captaincy to Hardik Pandya but continues to be a key member of the franchise. Speaking on Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel ahead of the IPL 2025 season, Shashank heaped praise on the Rohit.
The PBKS batter feels that the 37 year old backs his players and gives them a lot of chances to perform, Shashank also said that Rohit is very smart captain and revealed that he is a fan of the Rohit’s on-field banter.
Shashank revealed that he had batted alongside Rohit once, but he wasn’t the captain back then.
“Everyone says that he [Rohit] backs his players to the hilt; gives them plenty of chances. He is a very smart captain. His one-liners (on the field) are also quite funny. If you ask me one captain I would want to play under, it will be Rohit Sharma,” Shashank said .
“He is from Bombay. I have also batted with him once. He was not the captain back then. I want to play under his leadership, that’s my wish.” concluded Shashank Singh.
Shashank Singh was picked by Punjab Kings in the IPL 2024 auction on a base price of INR 20 lakh.
He ended up as team’s highest run getter, scoring 354 runs at an average of 44.25 and a strike rate of 164.65 in 14 games. He was one of the two player retained by Punjab Kings ahead of the 2025 auction for a price of INR 5.50 crore.
Punjab Kings will play their first match of the IPL 2025 season against Gujarat Giants on March 25 at Narendra Modi Stadium.
