Australian captain Pat Cummins has eyed to return to action for IPL 2025 after missing the Champions Trophy due to injury.
During his away from action, he is balancing his family time and rehabilitation, to ensure full fitness ahead of cricketing commitments, including the World Test Championship.
Australia has faced significant injury setbacks with several players missing the Champions Trophy. Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Marcus Stoinis, and Mitchell Marsh were ruled out, leaving the squad without some of its most experienced names.

“It’s been an amazing month or so, just focusing entirely on family and not having to worry about training or an upcoming tour. Being completely present has been really special,” Cummins told cricket.com.au.
“That’s the goal—start bowling in the next week or so, build up gradually, and be ready for IPL,” he added.
Cummins was initially named in Australia’s preliminary squad for the Champions Trophy. However, his injury sustained during the latter stages of the Border Gavaskar Trophy where Australia secured 3-1 series victory over India in January 2025.
His absence has made Steve Smith to lead the side for the Champions Trophy. Placed in Group B, Australia will play their group stage matches against England, South Africa and Afghanistan.
Australia will play their first match against England on February 22 at Gaddafi Stadium. With Australia eyeing future assignements, including the WTC, Cummins’ fitness will be a major factor in shaping the team’s prospects across formats.
