Aftermath of the M. Chinnaswamy stampede incident, the stadium has been declared unfit for hosting big events or high-octane matches, and the RCB will play their home games in some other venue during the IPL 2026 season.
This means RCB will be given a new home ground for IPL 2026, and the team will have to play without the crucial support of its home crowd.
The judicial committee, headed by Justice John Michael D’Cunha, has declared the Chinnawamy stadium has been declared unsuitable to hold major events. If the government considers every province in the report, the holding of major events could be stopped at the iconic venue.
The commission was established to have a clear investigative view on the Chinnaswamy stampede during the victory celebrations of the RCB. The Stampede took place on 4th June, which foresaw the death of 11 innocent people, and several other players sustained injuries.
After the Karnataka government approved criminal cases against RCB and Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) over the stampede, which took the lives of 11 people.
The RCB franchise might well defined its IPL 2025 title without the support of its home crowd next year.
Earlier this month, the Karnataka government also greenlit the filing of criminal cases against RCB and KSCA over their alleged neglience in managing RCB’s IPL 2025 victory celebration last month.
The report found that 79 people were deployed inside the stadium, and none outside the stadium even though a large gathering of RCB fans turned for the parade. Moreover, no ambulances were stationed at the venue.
Rajat Patidar-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the IPL 2025 season last month by defeating fellow first-time title-chasers Punjab Kings in a high-octane final at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
