The Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has backed out of the Yorkshire Stint due to personal reasons.

With the exact reasons not revealed, Ruturaj Gaikwad was supposed to join the squad ahead of the next clash defending champions Surrey.

The 28-year old was due to play remaining Championship fixtures and was also signed to play the One-Day cup in his maiden stint in county cricket.

The Yorkshire head coach Anthony McGrath said, “Unfortunately Gaikwad’s not coming now for personal reasons.”

“We’re not going to have him for Scarborough or for the rest of the season. So that’s disappointing.”

Anthony said, the franchise are looking to find Gaikwad’s replacement soon.

“We’re working behind the scenes on what we can do. But it’s only two or three days away, so I’m not sure what we can do at the moment. We’re working to try and get a possible replacement, but time pressure is the issue. I can’t give you anything more than that at the moment,” he added.

Ruturaj Gaikwad has been out of action since his elbow injury during the IPL 2025 game against Rajasthan Royals which ruled him out of the tournament.

After he was ruled out, MS Dhoni led the side where the side completed the season in the bottom of the points table.

Eventhough he recovered and was subsequently picked in the India A squad for the four-day matches in England, he did not get a game.
