All-rounder Riyan Parag who has been absent from cricket action for three months due to chronic shoulder injury is set to return and lead Assam’s Ranji Trophy squad in the seven-round game against Saurashtra.
Due to the rehab and recovery following the surgery, Parag missed out on the Champions Trophy squad, having played the Sri Lanka ODI.
With Riyan Parag being able to take crucial wickets in the few ODIs and T20Is, he become one of the important members of the white-ball cricket.
However, there’s still time for the teams to announce their final squads and Parag could mkae the late dash, first by proving his fitness against Saurashtra.
Parag’s return will be a great boost to Assam, who are floating at the bottom of the sea in Group D, having lost couple of games.
Parag has been a star performer averaging 75.60 in the Last Ranji season. He also had a breakout in IPL 2024, made it to the national side, making his debut during Zimbabwe series.
Meanwhile, the likes of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul are also set to return to the Ranji fold on January 30 for Delhi and Karnataka respectively, with a few of the India test stars already making an appearance in domestic red-ball competition last week.
Kohli was excluded from Delhi’s squad for the January 23 match against Saurashtra due to neck stiffness. However, sources within the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) that he will be available for the upcoming clash against Railways.
Kohli has played 23 Ranji Trophy matches for Delhi scoring 1574 runs at an average of 50.77. He has smashed five centuries, with his peak form comes in 2009-10 when Kohli scored 374 runs in three matches with an average of 93.50.
Virat scored 57 runs in his last Ranji appearance during the 2012-13 season against Uttar Pradesh. One of the moments of Kohli’s early career came in 2006 while playing for Delhi against Karnataka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
