Surrey has signed New Zealand’s white-ball captain Mitchell Santner to fill in the slot in the T20 squad for the Vitality Blast season. Santner will be available for eigh group-stage games and the knockouts in September.
Dan Lawrence, Cameron Steel and Will Jacks were Surrey’s only spin options in the blast last year but the addition of Santner brings them a frontline option with more than 200 appearances in the format.
Surrey have lost the spot in knockouts for two years in a row. Surrey fans will get to see all-rounder in action at the Kia Oval on June 05 against Hampshire.
The 32-year old will join up the national team for their tour of Zimbabwe, missing the remainig group stage fixtures. Santner will be available in September for the knockout stages if the club have qualified from the groups.

Santner is also valuable lower order batter with more than 2,000 international white-ball runs to his name.
He was part of the CSK squad in 2023 and has represented both the Southern Brave and the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred, as well stints at Worcestershire in 2016, 2017 and 2023.
