Former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has joined the Sydney Sixers for his maiden campaign in the upcoming season of the Big Bash League.
He will be joining the Sixers as their overseas signing. As per the league rule, each BBL franchise are allowed to sign one international recruit before the draft, which is scheduled for June 19.
The new stint in BBL will give his another chance to get back into franchise cricket, having already played in PSL, LPL, CPL and Vitality Blast.
Babar Azam has been left out of the T20I format in previous series against New Zealand, Bangladesh, Australia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. Some reports also suggest that he will be left out for the upcoming series against the West Indies in July.

Speaking on signing a deal with Sydeny Sixers, Babar Azam said, “It’s an exciting opportunity to play in one of the world’s best T20 leagues and to be a part of such a successful and respected franchise.”
“I’m looking forward to contributing to the team’s success, building a strong connection with the fans, and sharing this experience with my friends, family and supporters at home in Pakistan,” Babar said in a Sixers release.
The Peshawar Zalmi captan Babar Azam has an outstanding record in T20 cricket. He has amassed 11,330 runs in 309 innings, including 20 centuries and 56-half centuries, with a high score of 122 at a strike rate of 129.33.
Apart from Babar Azam, several Pakistan names like Shaheen Afridi, Shadab Khan, Haris Rauf and Mohammad Rizwan are also expected to be part of next BBL season, but they’ll be selected through the overseas players draft next week.
