The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed that Ayush Mhatre will be leading the India U19 squad for the upcoming ACC Asia Cup, which will be played in the 50-over format.
Meanwhile, Vihaan Malhotra has been named as the vice captain of the side for the upcoming continental tournament.
Ayush Mhatre has previously led the side during the multi-format tour of Australia in September and October.
Meanwhile, Kishan Kumar has picked in the squad subject to fitness, said the BCCI in a statement.
The batting sensation, Vaibhav Suryavanshi who recently shined in the Rising Stars Asia Cup where he hit a 32-ball century for the third joint-fastest in men’s T20 format, while scoring 144 runs off 42 deliveries against the United Arab Emirates.
There were plenty of debate over the use of Vaibhav Suryavanshi after he was not sent out to bat in the Super Over.
However, the move backfired as both India batters were sent out without adding a single run to the tally. Jitesh Sharma got out on the first ball while attempting an ramp shot and Ashutosh Sharma was dismissed while trying to hit the ball over the fielder but giving an easy at extra-cover to Zawad Abrar.

Giving an explanation, Jitesh Sharma said, “They are masters of powerplay (Vaibhav and Priyansh Arya, who was also not given the chance to bat in the Super Over). But in the death overs Ashu (Ashutosh Sharma), Raman (Ramandeep Singh) and me are players who can hit at will. So it was team decision and my decision.”
India will play in the opener match of the tournament against opponent (qualifier) yet to be confirmed on December 12 before playing the game against Pakistan on December 14.
