The 22-year-old paceer Abdollah Ahmadzai has received his maiden call-up for the Afghanistan squad for the upcoming tri-Nation Series featuring Pakistan and the UAE.
He will be replacing Naveen Ul Haq in the squad for the series, which begins on Friday. Afghanistan will use the series as preparation for the Asia Cup 2025.
Abdollah Ahmadzai has played 10 T20S where he picked 14 wickets is still waiting for his first international cap and has been named among the reserves for the Afghanistan squad for the continental tournament.
This will be Afghanistan’s first white-ball series since the Champions Trophy 2025, which ended in February 2025.

Meanwhile, spinner AM Ghazanfar is also in line for his T20I debut during the tri-series as he joins the experienced players like Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Rahman, Mohammad Nabi and Noor Ahmad.
The tri-nation series will also mark the return of Ibrahim Zadran who has been absent in Aghanistan’s last T20I assignment in Zimbabwe in December 2024.
Meanwhile, left-arm spinner Nangeyalia Kharote has been also missed from the squad who has been named in the reserves of the Asia Cup.
The tri-series will be played in round-robin format before the top two meet in the final on September 07. If Afghanistan reach finals, they will get only one day rest ahead of the Asia Cup.
Afghanistan will play in the opener match of the Asia Cup on Hong Kong on September 09 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
