Rajat Patidar has been appointed as the RCB Captain for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. He becomes the eighth player to lead RCB in the Indian Premier League.

Patidar has been with RCB since 2021 and was one of their three retained players ahead of the mega auction. He has captaincy experience with his state team Madhya Pradesh in the 2024-25 seasons of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The 31 year old who made his IPL debut in 2021, has been part of the franchise since then.

With his ability to dominate pace and spin with equal ease, he has featured in 27 games for the side scoring 799 runs at a strike rate of 158.85. He was one of the three players retained ahead of the auction for INR 11 crore.

The Bengaluru franchise has opted for a new captain after they decided not to retain Faf du Plessis, who led the side in the last three seasons. RCB franchise did not bid for Faf and was sold to Delhi Capitals for his base Price.

The former South African cricketer took over the captaincy from Virat Kohli, who captained the side for over nine years.

To date, Kohli has led the side in 143 matches in the IPL, which is the second-highest for a captain after MS Dhoni. Under his captaincy, RCB has made the playoffs in 2015 and were the runners of the 2016 season.

The side also reached the playoff stage in 2020, 2021 and 2024 seasons. With RCB yet to win the IPL, the introduction of the new captain with a new look foresees the management’s preparations for claiming their maiden IPL title.
