The Bengaluru franchise has opted for a new captain after they decided not to retain Faf du Plessis, who led the side in the last three seasons. RCB franchise did not bid for Faf and was sold to Delhi Capitals for his base Price.
The former South African cricketer took over the captaincy from Virat Kohli, who captained the side for over nine years.
To date, Kohli has led the side in 143 matches in the IPL, which is the second-highest for a captain after MS Dhoni. Under his captaincy, RCB has made the playoffs in 2015 and were the runners of the 2016 season.
The side also reached the playoff stage in 2020, 2021 and 2024 seasons. With RCB yet to win the IPL, the introduction of the new captain with a new look foresees the management’s preparations for claiming their maiden IPL title.
