IPL 2026 Auction Date: Ahead of the IPL 2026 tournament, BCCI will be organising a mini auction for all teams to reshape their strategies. With the official date and venue yet to be confirmed, several reports suggest that the auction will likely be held in January or February 2026.
Several popular names have been retained and released ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. Meanwhile, several franchises have been involved in the trades making history in the IPL trades.
IPL 2026 Auction
Unlike a mega-auction, each squad can retain the majority of their players ahead of the IPL 2026 Auction.
The difference between a mega auction and a mini-auction is that before a mega auction, teams are only allowed to retain three to five players, whereas before a mini-auction, franchises can retain any number of players.
As per IPL 2026 auction rules and regulations, there are no restrictions on the number of players who can be released or retained. In addition to the purse remaining from the previous auction and the value of the players they release, teams will have an additional INR 5 crore to spend in the auction.
As of the previous season, the BCCI allowed franchises to use the “TRADE” option, where teams can exchange players between them.

The IPL 2026 Squad has been finalized after the mega auction to comprise 25 members of all 10 teams: CSK, RCB, KKR, MI, PBKS, MI, KKR, RR, LSG, DC, and GT.
As per the IPL committee rules, each franchise can have 25 players in their squad, out of which a maximum of 8 can be foreign players. In Playing 11, each team can have a maximum of 4 overseas players in the mix.

BCCI has earned INR 48,390 crores (digital+TV) from the IPL 2023-27 media rights. Across five years of media rights, a total of 410 matches will be played where BCCI earns roughly INR 118 crore per match.
