Captain View

Aaron Finch

We would like to bowl first. Looks like a good wicket, can’t see things changing a lot during the course of the game. We have a lot of experience in the side, we haven’t played as a group, but we’re looking forward to this tournament. Tough selection choices, but Ashton Agar, Kane Richardson, Josh Inglis and Mitch Swepson miss out.

Temba Bavuma

It’s been a privilege to lead the team in the tournament, big responsibility and looking forward to it. Two spinners, KG, Nortje, an all-rounder and an extra batsman in Klassen at 6. Our preparations have been good, have played a lot together. We are coming off with some real momentum, not worried about any favourites tag, but we have to stay true to expectations – we have confidence in our team and we’ll look to do well.

T20 WC 2021 Australia vs South Africa Highlights

South Africa Batting

Bavuma and de Kock gets into the crease to lead South Africa while Starc opens the bowling attack.

South African opening batsmen fail to impress with a good start. Bavuma loses his wicket in the second over of the innings while scoring 12 from facing 7 deliveries. In the followed over Hazlewood dismissed van der Dussen and loads the pressure over the South African batting unit.

In Hazlewood’s second over de Kock (wk) loses his wicket while scoring just 7 runs and return to the pavillion. South Africa gets under pressure and forced to build a partnership which could save the team from getting low runs.

But it could clearly see that South African batsmen were struggling to face the aggressive Australian bowling attack.

With the team’s highest individual score of 40 runs from Markram South Africa scored 118 runs off 9 wickets at the end of the 20 overs.

Australia Batting

With a needed run rate below 6 per over Australian opening batsman, David Warner and Aaron Finch reach the crease to lead Australia while Rabada opens the bowling attack.

Rabada poses threat over the Australian opening pair by bowling at a speed of 140+ in the very first over. Nortje opens the followed over and draws the first blood for Australia by dismissing Finch for 0 runs.

While everyone expects David Warner to get back to his form, Rabada turns their dream down by dismissing him for 14 runs in the 4th over. Soon Mitchell Marsh too dismissed by Maharaj for 11 runs and loads pressure over the chasing team.

The teams need an aggressive partnership where Steve Smith and Maxwell were at the ground. The duo need to maintain the run rate to not get pressured at the end of the match.

The duo added the runs as expected but soon in the 14th over Nortje dismissed Steve Smith for 35 runs and brings South Africa back in the game. In the following over Maxwell too dismissed for 18 runs.

Stoinis and Matthew Wade joins hands and lead Australia to bag their first victory of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 tournament. With 8 needed off the last over Stoinis slammed a couple of boundaries and bags the victory while a couple of remaining.

Player of the Match

Josh Hazlewood

I think length was the key, anything full was easy to score. Hence, the length was crucial on this wicket. He (de Kock) is pretty good with that (ramp) shot, but unfortunately, that short ball hit his glove and it popped up onto the stumps, was good to see the back of Quinny (de Kock).

The wicket here is a bit slower in the daytime, and the ball skids on nicely at night. The bowlers did a great job, Maxwell bowled well. It got closer towards the end, but we had the confidence in those guys (Wade and Stoinis), we knew they would get us over the finishing line.
