Pravin Amre Likely to Leave Delhi Capitals After Nine Years

Pravin Amre, one of the most key figures of the Delhi Capitals setup is likely to part ways with the franchise after nine years of his service.

This marks the end of an era and opens a new phase inside the club ahead of IPL 2025. The long-serving assistant coach has been part of shaping DC’s fortunes and his departure restructuring within the team, is set to shape the landscape of the franchise.

The decision for Pravin Amre to leave Delhi Capitals stems from the expiration of his four-year contract. According to reports, both Amre and the franchise have mutually agreed to part ways after joining the club in 2015.

“In Amre’s case, his parting with DC is mutual, as the franchise owners have always liked the hard work he has put in building Gen-Next players for the team. His four-year contract with the franchise has come to an end.”

GMR group, co-owners of DC, are undergoing significant changes within the team structure. With a new management setup and coaching staff, DC is clearly setting to reform the club.

“GMR, who are supposed to run the team for the next two years, might still give him a new role in the fresh set-up, but it’s unlikely to be a direct role with the Delhi Capitals, as it was earlier,” said a source.

Amre brought stability, expertise and an unmatched ability to develop young talent. Over the years, he played a critical role as both an assistant coach and scout.

He has helped players like Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw to shape their careers, who have now become key members of the franchise and the Indian Cricket Team.

“Amre was instrumental in getting Shreyas Iyer to DC in 2015, and then the likes of Rishabh Pant, Khaleel Ahmed, and Prithvi Shaw all were recommended highly by him.”

“He was basically the main link between the domestic players and DC’s previous head coach, Ricky Ponting. He helped the Indian players find their feet in the world of IPL, helping them grow fast,” said a source.

With Amre set to the role as his assistant coach, the GMR group has hinted at offering him another position within the organization.

But it’s unlikely that his new role will be as hands-on as his previous one. This indicates Amre’s career possibly towards more administrative or advisory positions, where his deep knowledge of Indian Cricket can still be utilized in coaching.

Delhi Capitals has made some major changes to their coaching staff as Ricky Ponting has stepped down from the head coach role. Meanwhile, Hemang Badani has been appointed as the new head coach while Venugopal Rao has taken over the role of DC’s director of cricket operations, a position previously held by Sourav Ganguly.

Delhi Capitals are likely to retain Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

With October 31 being the deadline for the franchise to reveal retentions, Rishabh Pant‘s future with the team remains uncertain. With the reports suggesting the franchise will retain Pant, it cannot be said further for sure.
